Jimmy Gentz started out in the Longhorn business in 1979 with the purchase of 6 heifers. He got off to a rough start when lightning struck and killed the best heifer out of the bunch.

However, like the cattle he raised, he persevered and survived and his herd has now grown to over 140 mother cows, 7 bulls and 5 steers (two of which are trained to ride, thanks to Janice Heinze).

About half of the Gentz herd has been purchased at Longhorn sales, with a lot of WR and Butler lines. Jimmy loves the WR line with the Texas Twist while his son James leans more toward the Butler breeding with the massive horns.
